This variety is mainly grown in regions like Trás-os-Montes and Marvão, areas in Portugal renowned for their rich chestnut production.

Roasting is a classic way to enjoy Judia chestnuts, especially during festivals like São Martinho (St. Martin’s Day) in November. To prepare, make a slit in each chestnut to prevent them from bursting. Roast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20–30 minutes, or until the shells open and the insides are tender and fragrant.
